A quiet afternoon with loved ones gathered under the shade sounds like the perfect afternoon in the mountains. Families who dream of getting away from the noise and the rush of the city can find just this scene in the Great Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee. So, pack a cooler, and grab a seat for our three favorite spots to explore the National Park while enjoying a family meal.

Chimneys Picnic Area

One of the most popular picnic areas in the Great Smoky Mountains is Chimneys Picnic Area. With nearly 70 sites that include a grill and table, this is a great spot to relax and dine by the river. The sites are spread out enough for plenty of privacy and parking. Even better, it’s one of the best photo spots in the area!

Greenbrier Picnic Area

Tucked under a canopy of shade trees, the Greenbrier Picnic Area is a smaller site with 12 areas for grilling and eating. Greenbrier also has a picnic pavilion open year round for larger family gatherings that can seat 70.

Cades Cove Picnic Area

Although Cades Cove is a popular spot, this picnic area in the Great Smoky Mountains is one of the most scenic with creek access on both sides. Kids can dip their toes in the water, and parents can easily watch them while preparing the meal. The picnic area is at the end of the Loop Road, so it’s easy to eat before or after your auto-tour of the historic area.

To enjoy a meal with spectacular views from inside, Timber Tops Luxury Cabin Rentals in Gatlinburg invites you to choose one of our vacation cabins with large open dining rooms for family gatherings. With open floor plans and view-facing windows, you and your family can enjoy spectacular outdoor views from your own table.
