Smoky Mountains covered in snow in the winter

Have you ever visited the Smoky Mountains and wanted to take something back with you that you carry around long after the vacation is over? What about something that was not only sentimental, but it was worth a little money as well?

If you answered yes to either of the previous two questions, you are in luck! On January 29 officials with the Great Smoky Mountains National park unveiled the beautiful new 2014 Great Smoky Mountains National Park quarter. Capturing the rich biodiversity of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the new quarter features a rustic log cabin, lush trees and a hawk circling the scene.

What a great way to kick off the new year! The Great Smoky Mountains National Park quarter was the first quarter released in 2014 as part of the United States’ Mint’s America the Beautiful Quarters Program. Other quarters set to release this year include Shenandoah National Park in Virginia, Arches National Park in Utah, Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado, and Everglades National Park in Florida.

The best part about all these scenic quarters is that they will be very easy to find. Although fans do have the option of picking up an uncirculated version of the quarters, many guests can find them just as easily in their spare change.
