The East Tennessee Mountains are being taken over by dragons and monsters for one day only. In celebration of the cultural heritage of spoken storytelling in the Appalachians, a World Storytelling event in Gatlinburg is scheduled to dazzle all ages.
The Smoky Mountain Storytellers Association will be presenting a theme of “Dragons and Monsters,” showcasing the heritage of the Smoky Mountains with humor and adventure. Running from 2:00pm to 4:00pm on March 22nd, the showcase will be located at the Sweet Fanny Adams Theatre in Gatlinburg.
World Storytelling Day is not the only thing happening this spring weekend. As part of SpringFest, March is jam-packed with fun and unique things to do throughout the mountains. On the same day as the storytelling event, the final day of A Mountain Quiltfest will have more than 10 workshops and a quilt show.
In its 20th year, the Quiltfest will run March 19-22 and include more than 75 workshops throughout the week. Another exciting event in Pigeon Forge on March 22 is the opening of Dollywood for the 2014 season.
Whether you want to learn a new craft, listen to adventurous tales or take an adventure of your own, the Smoky Mountains are the place to be this spring.
