Have You Heard? The Great Smoky Mountains National Park Reopens Once Again!

Guess what time of year it is?! It’s finally springtime in the Smoky Mountains! The warmer temperatures have made their way to the mountains, and the snowy season has finally come to an end. Visitors to the Great Smoky Mountains know that warmer weather means reopening many of the national park’s great roads and locations.

At Timber Tops Luxury Cabin Rentals, we decided to help you out by putting together a list of places that will be reopening for the spring season. The National Park Service has announced the following openings for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park this spring:

Road Openings

  • April 1: Clingmans Dome Road
  • April 11: Parson Branch, Rich Mountain Road, Little Greenbrier, Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail
  • May 23: Balsam Mountain Road

Picnic Areas

  • March 15: Chimneys Picnic Area
  • April 4: Collins Creek Picnic Area
  • April 11: Big Creek and Cosby Picnic Areas

Cades Cove, Deep Creek, Greenbrier and Metcalf Bottoms picnic areas are all open year round, so you can continue to enjoy these areas during the spring and summer months.

Visitor Centers

Sugarlands Visitor Center

  • April-May: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • June-August: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Cades Cove Visitor Center

  • April: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • May-July: 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Clingmans Dome Visitor Center

  • April-October: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Important Note About Cades Cove

The Cades Cove Loop Road will be closed until 10 a.m. on Wednesdays and Sundays from May 7 to September 24. During these early morning hours, the loop road will only be open to pedestrians and bicyclists. It’s a great time to get out and enjoy Cades Cove with your family, without the drive.
