If you’re looking for a short hike in the mountains, you may want to check out the Gatlinburg Trail. Whether you are looking for a brisk walking path to enjoy some time with your pet or a shorter hike with your family, the Gatlinburg Trail is great for you! Check out some of our tips to make sure you make the most of your experience on the trail!
Hiking with Your Pet
This is one of only two pet friendly hikes in the Smokies. If you plan to take your pet, make sure you pack a leash! This trail is popular for walking or running with your pet. Choose to start your hike earlier in the day to avoid large groups of people.
Sugarlands Visitor Center
For those that are looking for a short hike without your pet, you can make the most of your trip by starting at Sugarlands Visitor Center. Sugarlands Visitor Center is located on Newfound Gap Road, roughly two miles south of Gatlinburg. The parking lot at the visitor center tends to fill up quickly during the summer months, so choosing to hike earlier in the day is always the best option. At Sugarlands Visitor Center, you can enjoy a 20 minute video about the park. Also at the visitor center, you can view natural history exhibits and purchase a beverage from one of the vending machines.
Gatlinburg Trail Hike
The Gatlinburg Trail hike is considered easy, so kids and adults can both enjoy the Smoky Mountains. For the most part, the hike is paved and easy on the feet. There are some grassy and dirt areas as you wind through the forestry, but there are not major rocks to climb or things to trip over on the path. The entire hike will take approximately two hours to complete. The hike is almost four miles, round trip.
After a day of hiking the Gatlinburg Trail and exploring the Smoky Mountains, rest and relax in one of our Gatlinburg cabins.
